Hi, I would like to share some info on my other TGB 1111
This one is a heavily modified PVPJ TGB 1111 that I bought as it is. Some of the modifications are: OM606 Mercedes turbo diesel 5 speed gearbox with overdrive Power assisted steering. Custom rear doors (there are no rear doors on the original car). Rebuilt storage room in the back and a new lid. 70 liter fresh water tank with a heat exchanger to produce hot water. On board air compressor that runs from the power take off.

Hello
The diesel makes it a whole different car, especially on the road but also when I go off-road. Lots of power 177 Hk / 330 Nm The tires are Maxxis Creepy crawler 37X14,5R16 on rims that has been widened about 3 inches.

Nice 1111. Do you have any photo from underneath? I'm curious about gearbox, how it's resolved in your volvo. Diesel pump is stock electronic from om606?

Hello
I will try to get some fotos the next time i'm in the garage. The pump is a mechanical from OM303 with 7 mm elements.
|
||||
| ||||
Did you mean OM603? Who built the pump? I think with 7mm it's more than 177hp.
Do you know anything about gearboxes owerdrive? What gears are used? From what cars gearbox. I'm thinking about gearbox swap from stock 4speed to 5speed.

Yes it should be OM603
http://www.dieselmeken.se/ has built the pump. It might be just 6,5 mm elements, im not sure A Bedford gearbox acted as a donator and fift gear is about 0.82 I bought the car as it is so I don’t have all information about the build but I can try to get more information about the Bedford gearbox if you want to

Hi to every one, not been here for a while, That looks a very tidy looking 1111, hope the motor is working out for you ok.
i am very curious about the Bedford gearbox do you know if it is longer than the orignal 4 spead. perhaps a photo the next time you are under neath having a look
|
||||
| ||||
In this case Bedford's gearbox is used as a donor. Gears from it's 5th speed are used in volvos gearbox.

You are going to have a lot of fun with that rig, the Rims / Tires look the part.
The gear box is intresting if we can find better gear ratio for more top spped on the 5th gear, as I understand it the 5th gear is 1 to 1 so it makes no diffrence in my case TGB1314 The gear box has been used in the Bedford CF / Opel 2.5D to name a few here are some links i found if some one need gearbox ratios changed or just a rebuilt compition gearbox but the prices WoW..! thanks and enjoy your rig this summer Some usefull PDF:s in th link below. http://eliteracingtransmissions.com/categories/historic-submenu/elite-zf-s5-18-3/ http://www.gr-box.sm/

Hmm....interesting in more than one way....if I interpret correctly, then you could have both an unsynchronised box, as well as straight-cut gears (and in that combination, only?) Not sure why they offer this....I know there are even trucks today that can be ordered with unsynchronised transmission (as discount option even!), but in 'cars' it mostly sounds as if ZF/aftermarket tries to create something *ver* oldfashioned? But that would even 'exceed' (undercut) the S5-18-3 era, not? Did ZF ever have a non-sync version of this box, in *any* application? (it's no rocketscience to create one, from the sync-version....but &why*, if not (never ever) original? Which brings us tot the straight-cut gears: this is similar to early Land Cruiser transmissions (T-case only, IIRC?), which are *loud*? (one could deliberate whether this is *noticeable* in a C3-series, in original outfit (fan/tires/cab-insulation)....:)) (but it is half the fun of driving an old TLC (who, in Africa-trim, have a rigid fan too, btw...:)) If anyone sees a more plausible reasoning behind both aspects, historical or technical/performance-wise, please share...:)) (it could come down to something as mundane as price? (just as with hose trucks?)) (it becoming totally 'wear-free' (sync-rings) doesn't make much sense either, unless driven really over the (original) edge?

I think it has to do with the strength of the gear box,
I think some revers gears in modern gear boxes are Sreaight cut to save cost so you might be right, but Straight cut gears are stronger I think, but unforgiving if you you don't know how to use them, Crash Gear boxes there noisy at high RPM Double clutching, blibing the throttle between shifts, I drove old AEC trucks as a kid both feet on the clutch to start then never used the clutch till I had to stop. i still drive like that today some times for fun even it is totaly unessery. There is some one on here works for ZF perhaps he has some ideas. The straight cut gear 1st and 2nd would be good but 4th would drive you insane on a long trip.!
