To keep or not to keep original engine... « am: 21.September 2015 21:38:4 »

Hi everyone, back again! This seems to be better to put in its own topic: currently our Volvo C306/TGB 221 has its original B30 A engine, and we were debating whether it is going to be worth spending money on converting the engine to electronic ignition, converting it to LPG, etc, or whether we should just run it as it is for the time being and eventually change the engine for a diesel. We have seen a few of WJM's and others' posts regarding the Steyr M16 engine making a good "transplant" for the Volvo, and just wondered if anybody has (or knows someone else who has) actually done this to a TGB?

We've been looking around to find the B30 E so that we can put fuel injection on, but no luck so far. We'd really like an engine that can run on multiple/contaminated fuel eventually as we don't know where in the world we may end up taking it! But at the moment it will be staying in the UK so just some improved fuel economy will be good.

... best fuel economy is using LPG. If you use your car in Europe, it would be no problem.

We are considering LPG but as the TGB20 is very low-geared and slow to start with, we're reluctant to do anything that drops the engine power! Still looking out for a B30E head and manifold setup.
