Servus, weiß jemand wofür beim c303 diese Öse auf dem Dach vorgesehen ist? Ist es möglich da das Ersatzrad zu befestigen oder würde es wegen dem Gewicht auf dem Dach Probleme geben? Viele Grüße

Which eyelet? A photo would be helpful. C304 4x4 canvas, 6x6 longbody and 6x6 ambulance have a spare tyre mount above the driver/front passenger. Maurice

@Maurice Yes, that's exactly how it looks to me. but it's a normal c303... then I'll put the spare wheel on the roof. Best regards

I have a couple of related questions:
Is any preparation recommended? Can the wheel trap water and cause the roof to rust more quickly? I recall a Youtube video about the restoration/conversion of a Malaysian C304 and the cab roof had a lot of pinholes that the owner blamed, possibly incorrectly, on the spare wheel.
Also, how do you get the spare wheel up and down? It's at least 50kg...

I know that a problem could be that a wheel brings more high-centered front weight to a TGB11. The two axle ones already are a little light on the back.

FWIW, Goodyear is 45kg, Trelleborg 55kg, Michelin 9.00 same IIRC. But yes, didn't mention this pesky logistics yet, not wanting to rain on OP's parade, thinking he already figured this out beforehand....;)) (for my trip to Shanghai, I loaded an extra spare on my roofrack, and it took 4 strong guys to lift it up high enough....:)) (the regular rear-door location isn't that much better though; IIRC some rims show tighter inner-circle tolerances than others (either metal or paint). or the door-side holder does, which can make a sure fit, in one throw/hoist, also pesky)) (not that door-side holders from other 4x4 brands, factory or aftermarket, are much better either, when trying to pin-point them onto the 3 bolts, all bolts at once (otherwise it tilts & jams)) Anyway, I have been pondering about wheel-hoisting crane contraptions ever since....;)) (larger military trucks offer some inspiration....I even recall some workshop versions of Pinzgauer 6x6, with a separate cargo-compartment, rolldoor, with (horizontal) sliding telescope rail & hoist)

I noticed that too: the c303 is heavier at the front than at the back. if the spare wheel is on the roof it will be even more. and yes you can't get it up alone. It's probably not a good idea. It's best to attach something light there. camouflage net or something similar.

Well, if you have to have a wheel on the roof, you can just throw it down in case of need. Maybe fasten a rop to it to prevent juping away. Because I'd say in that case the shit has already hit the fan, to put the defective wheel just into the inside should be an adequate option. Later on, on safe ground, with other people, one can still put the wheel back on the roof without any ruffle.
Short anecdote: After a day working on the TGB I was so exhausted that I already could not lift the wheel back to its place on the back. Just didn't have it anymore. I kind of rolled it on the tow hook then, had a break, kind of rolled it the on the bumper, had a longer break, and finally pushed it up into place.
