the brakes worked years ago, when it was running with the original engine in it.  so i know its not the shoes or drums.  the brake pedal itself is also pretty rusty, so im sure brake fluid was leaking from the master cylinder, onto the pedal.

Well, my work here is done!  I probably wont be posting much more now on account of my job being to get it running and driving (unless he has questions he wants me to ask the forum ).  In saying that, here is a short video of me driving it to his house to drop it off.  he REALLY needs to re-gear it because it seems to top out at 45 mph.  Then again, there is no tachometer, so i wasn't sure what my RPMs were at.  but I didnt want to over-rev it and it seemed to be getting pretty loud.  Other than that, it actually drives really nice and everything worked great!

also, I wasnt prepared to take a real nice video, or else I would have mounted the phone on the windshield and taken a much longer video.

If you could hear the engine at that speed, you simply had the wrong tyres....:))))

No seriously, 110km/h flatout/redline should be possible, but 80/90km/h is more pleasant.

But yes, it feels like there is at least one (overdrive) gear missing, or even 2.

Jim Most likely the owner will need to change diff ratios or use bigger tyres (unless he only uses it on farm or offroad)  otherwise serious limitations on highway driving --including tinnitus damage from loud tyres and engine noise
