I find it quite annoying to have to grope around under the dash to reset the trip counter. Has anyone here already solved this problem and moved the reset knob somewhere more easily reached?

Just mount a (much) bigger tank, and then also become annoyed the darn counter is limited to 999....;))
(but at least you don't have to reset as much....:))

Take a little palstic tube or pipe, stable against torsion
with the inner diameter as big as the turning knob cut it to may be 15 cm length as you like put a rotary knob or rubber one end cut length in the other end for 2 cm or thre and widen it a bit put a clamp over that end of the tube press it over the turning knob under the dashboard fix it with the clamp now you hav an extension on the turning knob you can find and reach more easy. michael
"oh, for sure, you can do it with a normal streetcar...."

I found that the Unimog 404 uses the same speedometer as us, and that the end of the reset cable is threaded.
I checked under my dash (apologies for the poor photo) and our reset cable is the same, though mine at least does not have a nut fitted. So we could mount the cable directly to the dash, just as Mercedes did. All it needs is a hole and an appropriately-sized nut. I will add this to my "to do" list Maurice
