Motor intake detonations

Sorry for texting in english, i preffer it than using google translator in german.
I have done the Iberian classic raid and after 1000km of competition, when engine is hot (90C but a long time working) when the rpm is low and you press the accelerator, explosions occur in the engine intake. I do not happen with the engine cold. Alwais have done this but when the rpm was very very low. now it has become much more common. When i im in the highway at for example 75km/h and you have to accelerate to go up a hill, the explossions occur.

Any idea of what i have to check first? Anybody have experimented the same probelm? Thanks

Hi, it's more a "slapping" sound than a "boom"? I would say: Check for leak air, check valve clearance, ignition timing, condition of the whole ignition system, carburetor adjustments.

Thanks guys! Will check first the Valve-Clearance. Will be good anyway. If it persists, will check the other things. smiley

Hi -

a few questions which might help to understand / isolate the problem / cause:

1. Are the donations occur rather in the intake manifold than in the exhaust / flam-tube part?

2. Do the detonations occur whilst pressing the throttle (accelerating) or rather whilst releasing after acceleration?

3. Is the vacuum advance for the distributor timing (vacuum supplied by a small tube and screw on the front carburettor) functional and set?

4. Is the damper oil in both carburettors filled up correctly?

Omg didn’t see that response so sorry!
Detonations are in the intake (80% sure) and occur only when accelerating in that kind of situations when you want to push more but the motor can’t for example when you are low rpm in large gear and try to accelerate, it’s like the excess of gas is not properly managed.

O have check visually the vacuum tube visually and seems to be ok.
The oil level of the rear carburador seems to be ok (covers all the centre spindle. But the front carburettor seems to have insufficient oil. I push the spindle and gets out dry.
Could be caused by this? It only happens when the engine is hot (temperature never goes over 90) but after a lot of km at a fast speed. Never doing offroad.

How can I fill it? I mean, I suppose I can’t put too much inside, I’m afraid of puttin in too much.
