Phut phut phut sound « am: 01.August 2022 19:09:54 »

Started the engine yesterday morning after some heavy rain and it made a noticeable sound. Sound remained while driving, matching the engine rpm. Freaked me out a bit so I came home quickly. https://i.imgur.com/rPkYxRD.mp4Started the engine later in the day and it was back to normal. Anything to be concerned about? Maurice

Couldnt hear the sound here on my pc, but "heavy rain" and "later ok" lets me immediately think of water somwhere in the ignition and as a result not running on all cylinders.

Seems the volume is off by default, you need to click the speaker icon at the top right. Thanks for the advice. Can I test your hypothesis by temporarily disconnecting a spark plug and listening? I think the spark plugs and ignition leads are original to the vehicle so maybe overdue for replacement. Maurice

Of course I did that Thanks for the advice. Can I test your hypothesis by temporarily disconnecting a spark plug and listening? |
Theoretically yes, but be very careful. High voltage! But I'm not sure if disconnecting a spark plug of a running engine could harm ignition components. On a modern enigine, I would not do that. Alternative: Pressure sprayer with water. If you do this when it's dark, you should even be able to see if the current goes its own ways. When I got my TGB, I was so enthusiastic that I drove the first days just like I received it. Worked fine, but then when I wanted to change the ignition components, turned out that they were very original. The plugs crumbled when I pulled them... best thing is to overhaul and check the distributor, and buy new cap, cables, spark plugs. And don't forget the spark plug grease: https://www.autodoc.de/beru/994899

Sorry I ordered some just now, shipping cost is higher than the purchase cost I assume it's dialectric grease for the ignition leads? Maurice

I got that from Yankee here in the forum, it's used to keep the cables waterproof at their connections. And it ssems to improve the isolation and it seems to prevent seizure. I used it mostly because of the water thing.
